If anxiety or low mood has been affecting your daily life, your relationships, your sleep, or your ability to enjoy things, it may be time to talk to a provider. You don’t have to be in crisis to seek help, and you don’t have to figure it out alone. As a primary care provider, I evaluate and manage anxiety and depression as part of whole-person care, in a judgment-free setting.

I’m Krystal McIntyre, FNP-C at ChiroMed Crawfordsville. Mental health is health, and it’s a natural and important part of the care I provide.

You Don’t Have to Wait Until It’s Severe

One of the most common things I hear is that people waited far longer than they needed to before reaching out. There’s a lingering idea that you have to be at a breaking point to justify getting help. That isn’t true.

If anxiety, worry, sadness, or low mood is interfering with your life, that’s reason enough to talk to someone. Getting support earlier often makes things more manageable and prevents the struggle from deepening. You deserve to feel better, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Signs It Might Be Time to Reach Out

Everyone feels anxious or down sometimes. The question is when it becomes something worth addressing. A few signs suggest it’s time.

Persistent worry or anxiety that’s hard to control. Feeling down, empty, or hopeless more days than not. Losing interest in things you used to enjoy. Changes in sleep, appetite, or energy. Difficulty concentrating or functioning at work or home. Physical symptoms like tension, restlessness, or fatigue without a clear cause.

If some of these sound familiar and have lasted more than a couple of weeks, that’s a good reason to have a conversation.

Why Start With Your Primary Care Provider?

Many people don’t realize that primary care is often a great starting point for mental health concerns. I’m somewhere you can bring these worries in the same trusted setting where you handle the rest of your health.

Starting here has real advantages. Sometimes physical health issues, like thyroid problems or other conditions, can contribute to mood and anxiety symptoms, and as your primary care provider I can evaluate for those. I can also look at how anxiety or depression connects to your sleep, your other health conditions, and your overall wellbeing.

It often feels less intimidating to start a conversation with a provider you already know and trust, in a familiar place.

How I Approach Mental Health Care

When you come to me with these concerns, we start with a conversation. I take time to understand what you’re experiencing, how long it’s been going on, and how it’s affecting your life. There’s no rushing and no judgment.

From there, we discuss what might help. I provide evaluation and ongoing management of anxiety and depression, and that care is integrated with your broader health plan. Any treatment approach is something I consider carefully and individually, always based on your specific situation and always with your input.

I believe in treating each person as an individual, not just a diagnosis. Your story, your goals, and your challenges all matter in shaping the right approach for you.

Ongoing Support, Not a One-Time Fix

Mental health care isn’t a single visit and done. It’s an ongoing relationship where we check in, see what’s working, and adjust as needed. Having a provider who follows your progress over time and knows your history makes that care more effective.

There may be times when connecting you with additional specialized mental health resources is the right move, and I’ll help coordinate that when it’s needed. The goal is always to make sure you have the right support.

A Judgment-Free Conversation

I want to emphasize this, because stigma keeps too many people from reaching out. There is no judgment in my office. Anxiety and depression are common, real, and treatable, and seeking help is a healthy, responsible thing to do for yourself.

You should feel comfortable being honest about what you’re going through. That honesty is what allows me to actually help.

If You Need Immediate Help

If you are ever in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out for immediate support right away by calling or texting 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which is available 24 hours a day. For a scheduled conversation about ongoing anxiety or depression, I’m here to help.
